Time was 2019 summer, the second time I was part of the InCube organisation team. This time I was working on the content for the workshop facilitators. Having done facilitation twice, I have had some thoughts and ideas about what could make facilitator's job better.
So together with Ralph Horat, we worked on the facilitator's guide book and delivered this as a manual for the InCube program. This is still used in the InCube project today.

This guide book was divided into sections according to InCube schedule. As the workshop progress, multiple tool kits and explanation of the exercise is provided to help Design Thinking workshop participants to stay engaged, stay energised and come up with the best solution they can for the challenge.
The typical challenges faced by the participants during a 4 day workshops are the following:
-
Not ideating enough to really understand the problem space, when diverging in problem space, but just instead fixated on one problem too early.
-
Participants stuck in "group-thinking" while not exploring other possibilities
-
Some participants are more engaged and some are lagging or not actively contributing to the idea discourse and research.
-
Participants getting exhausted and having low energy to yet ideate and discuss even more.
This facilitator's guide is meant to be a toolbox for facilitator, when they observed above situations, they can act quickly and help adjust the chemistry of the group at the moment.
